AgriSculpture

Agrisculpture, a public art project was undertaken in the spring of 2015 and debuted in late July is 2015. Employing old farm implements from rural Indiana, whimsical and nostalgic works of folk art were fashioned by three sculptors commissioned to create their works for placement in the Farmers Market on Washington and 8th Streets. The site specific work was made possible by a private and public partnership.

Charles Wescott Park

Charles R. Westcott Park is a three- acre plot of land that, in recent years, was an unused parcel. Though a number of sponsors, it was elevated to a higher use as a public park featuring lovely benches and gardens, a sculpture, a permanent display to exhibit children’s art and a unique decorative and functional ceramic wall, the tiles of which were designed by hundreds of children who participated in a public art project sponsored by the Lubeznik Center for the Arts. The park site is dedicated to the late Charles R. Westcott, a champion of children and a humanitarian in our community.

Storm Drain Art

The Lubeznik Center for the arts and LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District partnered with the Michigan City Area High School to do an environmental art installation. Functional storm drains along streets in the Uptown Arts District were adorned with original designs which reflected both artistic originality and a deeper understanding of the impact of waste water and its role in the larger environmental management issues.

Steamroller
Printmaking
Project

In August of 2014, artists from the area and volunteers created very large scale block prints which were inked and then rolled over by an industrial steamroller to the delight of a large crowd in what could be described as a "ha penning."
